Practical information for visiting Carthage and Tunis

  • Due to the high cost of roaming calls and data, it is advisable to buy a SIM card for your phone upon your arrival in Tunis. They are sold at the airport and they should cost around 10/15 euros per week. Please remember that mobile apps such as Whatsapp or Skype are not bound to your phone number so they should work even if you change your SIM card / phone number.
  • The currency in Tunisia is “Tunisian dinar”. Even though some shops may accept Euros as currency, it is advisable to have with you a sum in Tunisian dinars, in order to be able to afford services such as Taxis or private drivers. You can change your money at the airport or withdraw at ATMs.
  • The distance from the Hotel Sidi Bou Said to the conference hall at IHEC Carthage is approximately 25/30 minutes on foot (with a steepish slope near the hotel). If you do not feel confortable with this, please keep in mind that Taxi services are very cheap and commonly used. It is advised to use one of the following services.
  • Taxi app – BOLT (iOS and Android app also available, please follow the links from the website), OTO (iOS and Android app also avalaible, please follow the links from the website)
